June 16-28, 2019
The University of Kentucky Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP)-Scholars is an academic enrichment program for high school graduates who are interested in becoming physicians and dentists to serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This summer program provides an opportunity to gain exposure to the professions in hope of solidifying a commitment to a career in medicine or dentistry. The program affords young scholars the chance to observe, network, and volunteer within the healthcare setting. These experiences will provide enhanced exposure to the aforementioned professions broadening the knowledge base of the involved students.
Applicants must be Kentucky residents and have graduated high school by the beginning of the program. They need to have been accepted to college (rising Freshmen). There must be a demonstrated clear interest in medical or dental school. There is no cost to the applicant to apply or participate.
The selection committee will carefully review the written personal statement, letter of recommendation, application, transcripts, and standardized test scores when determining the selection of participants. There will be 20 applicants selected. Applicants will be notified by email. A limited number of alternates will also be selected.
Participants must abide by all rules of the program. There is a mandatory attendance policy for all activities for the duration of the program. All students are required to live in the dormitory provided. Students cannot be employed during the program. They must also reside on campus at all times unless escorted by the PEPP staff.
