Academic Convocation and Awards Day
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine hosted its annual Academic Convocation and Awards Day on Friday, Oct. 11, recognizing excellence from dozens of students and faculty members in areas such as scholastic achievement, professionalism, dedication, and commitment to service.
Faculty member Lisa Cassis, PhD, vice president for research, received the William R. Willard Dean’s Recognition Award for her significant and long-standing dedication and devotion to medical education. Dr. Cassis leads the University’s research enterprise and manages research proposal development, grants and contracts administration, and human subjects protection. She also oversees multiple multidisciplinary research centers, institutes, and service core facilities within the University.
Presenting the Edwin Munich Memorial Lecture was College of Medicine alumnus William B. Cutrer, MD, Med, FAAP, who is now the assistant dean of undergraduate medical education at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Cutrer’s presentation was titled, “Professional Identity Formation: Making Better Clinicians Intentionally.”
Awards day, established in 1964, highlights the previous year’s academic accomplishments. The program was expanded in 1994 to include the college’s Academic Convocation, providing a venue for a series of lectures that address current topics in medical education. The Munich Memorial Lectureship was established by the family of Mr. Edwin Munich, a vital force for progress in the community.
