Medical Education Curriculum

 Welcome

The Medical Curriculum Office supports,  guides, and promotes the undergraduate medical education mission of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. The Medical Curriculum Office includes the following Centers:

  • the Center for Curricular Development and Implementation, which houses administrative staff and master's degree-level educators who work alongside course directors to coordinate and implement the curriculum;
  • the Center for Excellence in Medical Education, which fosters excellence in teaching through faculty development and programs that recognize and guide faculty toward excellence in medical education; and
  • the Clinical Skills Training and Assessment Center, which coordinates and integrates simulation and standardized patient experiences in the curriculum.

Current Initiatives

In the 2012-2013 academic year, the Medical Curriculum Office began the first phase of a two-year curricular revision resulting in a systems-based curriculum focused on integrating the foundational sciences into the clinical context.  This curricular revision is the outcome of a six-year planning process that brought together clinical and basic science faculty members, students, and administrators whose mission was to create a curriculum to prepare students to succeed in the complex world of medicine as leaders, problem solvers, team players, and lifelong learners.
